Indonesia is the TCC partner country with the largest population (2015 estimate: 255.4 million)[i], with 53% of its total population living in urban areas in 2014.[ii] Yet, the population is spread out across 922 permanently inhabited islands. Hence, the nationÕs land transport network is highly fragmented and aviation and navigation play a major role in the transportation sector. The share of 2/3-wheelers of the total number of passenger cars and 2/3-wheelers is relatively high and equaled 88.1% in 2013.[iii]
Country Activities
In Indonesia, the TCC project focusses on sustainability in the road freight sector and fuel economy standards for road vehicles. The TTC project is complimentary to other transport-related projects of GIZ in Indonesia such as Sustainable Urban Transport Improvement (SUTIP) Project and SUTRI-NAMA. The project cooperates with the Ministry of Transportation (MoT) as the main counterpart and also other sectoral ministries such as the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource (MoEMR) and the Coordinating Ministry for National Development (BAPPENAS). The project assists the MoT in developing and implementing strategies to increase energy efficiency and reduce GHG emission in the land transport sector. The TCC project has supported the MoT to develop Guidelines for BAU Baseline calculation from the transport sector and also further support on MRV related activities.
