Experts’ Discussion on Essential Transport Indicators for the Improvement of MRV in Thailand

Bangkok, December 9 2014 –“The Improvement of Measuring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) System and Essential Indicators for Transport Sector” was hosted by Transport & Climate Change Project (TCC), the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) and the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP). Mr. Jurg Grütter, a worldwide transport expert, shared his international knowledge and experiences of MRV system on transport sector [download]; additionally, current transport data collection status in Thailand was reported by local consultant [download].

The selected group of local stakeholders working related to data collection and transport indicators in Thailand were participated in this event including Department of Energy Business, National Statistics Office, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Department of Alternative Energy and Efficiency Development, Department of Land Transport, Department of Highways, and Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation.

Aside from sharing international knowledge, the participants actively shared opinions and updated situation of transport data collection under their responsibilities. It was highlighted that transport data collection barriers are lacking of budget, data availability, data integration within inter-governmental institutes and capacity building. In addition, the participants suggested that the mentioned obstacles can be overcome by an appointed organisation that plays a role as a central data collection.
