2-3 June, 2021 – As a follow-up workshop to the 2014 workshop in Singapore, the GIZ-project Transport and Climate Change (TCC) organised a regional workshop on Green Freight and Logistics in Southeast Asia. To share best practices and exchange experiences and knowledge of green freight (national) action plans and initiatives among a wide range of public and private stakeholders, TCC organised this event in cooperation with ADB and Clean Air Asia. 60 participants from 13 countries across Asia (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, China, India, Japan) and Europe (Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands) participated, including government representatives from Southeast Asian countries, freight forwarders and truckers associations, logistic firms and international organisations.

A series of presentations, notably by Prof. Alan McKinnon on the global perspective, by Jürg Grütter on best practices, and by Sudhir Gota on indicators, were given. Group discussions, designed to support the regional and national agenda setting regarding the development of green freight action plans, and to enhance the coordination of different green freight initiatives in the region, followed. The results of this workshop were documented in a comprehensive report and will serve as the knowledge basis for TCC’s green freight work including support for a green freight and logistics strategy under the KLTSP.

For more details, please refer to the workshop report and the workshop presentations.

The project “Sustainable Freight and Logistics in the Mekong Region“, which is implemented by GIZ and funded by both the European Union and the German government, was officially launched during the workshop, where the Memorandum of Understanding was signed. The project will run until the end of 2018.
