Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 10 November 2021 – The 1st meeting of the Expert Group on Sustainable Land Transport (EGSLT) was hosted by Malaysia with the support of GIZ’s TCC project. This meeting was part of a series of other events in Malaysia, namely the presentation of the Malaysia Stocktaking Report on Sustainable Transport and Climate Change, the 2nd Regional Workshop on Sustainable Transport Indicators, and the 1st ASEAN Fuel Economy Platform Meeting.
The EGSLT was created as an ad-hoc working group under the ASEAN Land Transport Working Group (LTWG). The ASEAN Transport Strategic Plan 2021-2025 / Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan (KLTSP) has specific goals to boost the connectivity within the ASEAN region and features also a chapter on sustainable transport. The EGSLT focused on driving forward the implementation of Sustainable Transport Goals under the KLTSP at the regional level, which include the development of a regional strategy on sustainable land transport, fuel economy, sustainable transport indicators, green freight and logistics, and training and capacity building. These activities are part of TCC’s support of ASEAN member states in implementing the KLTSP. It is foreseen that the EGSLT shall be the consultative body to discuss sustainable transport issues in ASEAN.
The next meeting of EGSLT is confirmed to be held in Bangkok and hosted by Thailand in end of March 2017.
